TRAINING
Renaissance Rumble Pro Wrestling training aims to create safe, proficient in-ring workers who perform as exciting, unique characters. Through a blend of American, lucha libre, and World of Sport style wrestling, our coaches help trainees develop into well-rounded wrestlers.
Our regular training schedule combines Skills classes, which serve as consistent practice to sharpen and maintain universal fundamentals, with Advanced classes and Special Events. These higher-level classes are aimed at experienced students as they prepare for, and take part in, professional wrestling on the independent circuit. But every Renaissance Rumble student starts their journey with the Beginner Series…
Thinking about getting in the ring?
Here’s your path with Renaissance Rumble.
Sign up for our Beginner Series waitlist and, when registration opens, claim your spot in class!
Every Beginner Series cycle contains two cumulative courses separated by an evaluation. Each course is:
Eight weeks long
Once per week on Sunday mornings
Capped at twelve students
$375 per student
Tackle the fundamentals of professional wrestling as you grow with your cohort for sixteen Sundays!
Beginner 1 introduces trainees to the building blocks of wrestling: calisthenic exercise, stretches, rolls, bumps, and holds. The last class is used to gauge progress and Beginner 2 readiness.
Beginner 2 builds on those skills to teach takedowns, partnered lifts, pins, ring entrances and exits, rope running, fast-paced drills, and more.
Time for the Beginner 2 assessment!
Months of hard work culminates in a pass/fail benchmark assessment for entry into the Renaissance Rumble gym. Trainees’ work is reviewed by the full Renaissance Rumble coaching staff. No need to study — if you attend class, work hard, and prioritize the safety of everyone in the ring, you’re on the path to success!
Regardless of outcome, coaches will provide personalized feedback highlighting where you can improve moving forwards.
Welcome to provisionary gym membership, where the real work begins!
Upon invitation to the gym, students may sign up for a monthly membership and attend Skills classes, held four times weekly. As a provisionary member, trainees learn key throws, slams, drags, drills, and spots that come to form matches. Provisionary members are also encouraged to begin thinking about character and the unique value they bring to a professional wrestling show.
Full gym membership is the last official benchmark in the Renaissance Rumble progression, and opens up a new world of training opportunities.
As full gym members, students may continue practicing in Skills sessions, with the additional option to train in Match Structure, Advanced Skills, and Open Ring. The wrestler works alongside classmates and coaches to become match ready through a development of narrative understanding, in-ring persona, and a personalized move set.
What comes next?
Wednesday night events
From repeat guest coaches to one-off seminars to specialized performance skill classes, Wednesday nights take many forms at Renaissance Rumble. Open to both previsionary and full gym members, Wednesday night events are a key to take a student’s training to new heights. We do not offer drop-in sessions at this time.
closed tapings
Monthly closed tapings give Renaissance Rumble students the opportunity to work a full match without an audience. These matches are only shared internally and allow trainees to increase comfort in match environments, experiment with new techniques, and hone their characters.
training showcases
To prepare trainees for true live-fire shows, Renaissance Rumble holds training showcases to audiences of family and friends. These events bring students into every part of crewing and performing on a wrestling show in a controlled training space!
“I’ll be honest: I had no idea what I was getting into by signing up for B1. ‘Professional wrestling’ felt like an abstract side quest. Almost 16 weeks later, it has become life-chantingly real. Every Sunday a coach names, shows, and asks us to perform an impossible move. Then, moments later (with expert support and tailored guidance) I do the impossible. Rinse and repeat, week after week. You’ve made me a pro wrestling convert.”
— Hana B.
what our students say
“[Beginner Series] taught me how to move in a way I didn’t know I could. Even though I had no experience in the ring, everything felt like a natural progression, and the trainers made me feel like I belonged there.”
— Langston C.
